Besøg hos Chiles ambassade i Danmark

We have now safely arrived in Santiago, and are quartered at our respective first host families.
The journey consisted of delays in both Copenhagen and Madrid, but this is nothing compared to the time we have been waiting since April. We are very happy finally to arrive, and we are all looking forward to the next four weeks.

The team is now (Oct 20th 7 p.m.) at a cafe in Santiago, after visiting Vitacura municipality followed by a visit at a childrens home (Hogar San Ricardo) for mentally and physically disabled poor boys. Waiting for an opportunity to elaborate on our experiences, upload some photos etc., this is simply a brief update.
At the picture we are teaming up after a very interesting (and tastefull
)) Vineyard visit yesterday.
We are now having a drink now before going to the Vitacura and the La Reina Alta Rotary Club tonight – where we will be doing our presentation.
Salud, take care all of you – and thank you for your greetings.

The team is now back in Santiago after a nice 3 day trip to Valparaiso (Vine del Mar), where we enjoyed 3 days of relaxing, dining, diving and drinking. We also visited Pablo Neruda’s fantastic and colorful house and Anne Hansen’s children library, which is the only library in Chile with childrens’ books (translated into Chilean from Danish).
Since our last update we have visited a (water) power plant in Rapel called “Endesa”, enjoyed a traditional local barbecue - at a fantastic summer residence - by the Rapel lake.
We have seen the moon from this side of the planet at the “Observatorio el Pochoco” and visited La Reina Municipality which is a very ecologically focused municipality.
The managing director – Peter Giacomiui – at the Santiago Mariott hotel has given us a very interesting tour at the hotel – both “front” and backstage.
The team experienced a fabolous night at a local/national restaurant (Los Abobes de Argomedo) with traditional food and music/dance show – from the different regions in Chile - and where we also learned the national dance “La Cueca”.
The following day we were invited to a birthday party with a local rotarian. The party took place south of Santiago, in the mountains, and we had a great day with many fantastic people – among others some Huasos (cowboys).
We experienced a smaller earthquake at a resort in the mountains (Les Colineas de Cuncumen) where we spent an entire day. We ended up doing our presentation after the lunch, which turned out to be an official Rotary lunch.
We have touched the snow at The Andes Mountains and visited La Moneda, which is the President Palace. We have also seen the capsular that brought up the miners last month.
Last week we also saw the Santiago Gran Logica (Free Maisons) and had a tour at Chile’s largest and oldest newspaper El Mercurio.
Our visit at Banco de Chile – the national bank – was extremely interesting. We had a talk with Michael Pedersen, Head of the macroeconomic analysis division.
On the 27th of October we visited the Santiago Rotary club in a very fantastic Social Club called “Club de la Union”. We have tried the local dish “completos” a few times and on Tursday the 28th we went towards the Pacific, where we started our stay there by visiting the Congress in Valparaiso.
Over and out from now.
Regards from Chile

We have now moved towards the south of Santiago after 2 more days in Santiago City. In Santiago we spend the Monday in a small city near Isla Negra visiting a clay artisana (“Greda”). Tuesday we had an interesting visit at the Military Academy, followed by a meeting with two Danish entrepreneurs who has started up the company www.datingchile.cl. The third visit on the Tuesday was with “Sociedad National de Agricultura”.
Wednesday the 3rd we moved to Rancagua, where we started our stay with a visit at Vina Casa Silva. In the evening we visited the Rancagua Rotary Club where we did our presentation and had dinner. Thursday morning we saw a local Chinchilla farm and in the afternoon we saw a 2 year old casino – the biggest in South America. we heard about the runnings of the casino and the impact it has had on the local business.
Yesterday (Saturday the 6th) we went to the biggest underground cobber mine in the world. We had a tour 2 kilometres inside the mountain, saw an old mining village and in general a great experience.
Today we have moved to Curico and we are looking very much forward to see what the next days will bring.

On Tuesday November 16th the team arrived in Copenhagen.
The last ten days in Chile offered many good experiences, such as a visits at; a local newspaper, an orphan home, the seaside/Iloca, a small “village” (funded by Rotary) with houses for people who lost their homes at the earthquake, the BBVA bank in Talca, the local rotary clubs in Curico and Talca and more.
We also had a dinner with the Danish embassy and a farewell barbecue in Santiago.
An elaboration of our last visits in Chile will follow, but for now we would like to thank all of you – both in Chile and Denmark – who made this experience possible for us.
Thank you!
